Our other dog Sheila is always thrilled when new dogs arrive. I immediately carried Happy outside and the two of them took off racing around and around the yard. Yes, this was going to work out very well. But the name had to go. "Happy" sounded too much like a male name. For a day, I called her Rosie, which
worked better than "Happy," but which still really wasn't quite right.
Then I heard the crash from the kitchen and found Rosie standing over a cube of butter which had previously been on the counter. She had managed to pull it down, though she is so short I didn't know how she'd done it. I never caught her taking things off the counter, so I set up "doggie cam" to catch her in the act, and catch her I did! That's the day her name changed. This dog was no Rosie--she was a real leaping lizard, and from that day she has been "Lizzie."
Lizzie is a ball of fire, intent on mischief, curious about everything, loves to play, considers the cage where we keep puppies that I am bottlefeeding her own "Lizzie TV" and she and Sheila play together all the time.
I suspected, when I first saw her, that she would never make it to adoption at Petco, but that she had just come "home," but when I saw the "Leaping Lizzie" video, I was certain of it. I hope that we have a long life together. She has already trained me to keep food off the kitchen counter.
