Two Cats Are Better Than One

If you only have one cat, go get another one. Now. A new survey of veterinarians conducted by Arm & Hammer concludes that solitary kitty cats are lonely.

Okay, maybe Arm & Hammer has a stake in this, since the company does manufacture multi-strength cat litter. But the vets insist that cats aren't as independent and solitary as we think; instead, they are happier when there is another feline in the house, reports Wireless Flash.

The Cat-Panion survey showed that cats left alone in the house experience feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and depression. In addition, their brains are up to 25 percent smaller and they are more likely to exhibit behavior problems than cats who have a feline companion. In Switzerland, there is an anti-cruelty law that forces cat owners to buy cats in pairs or more.

They say two heads are better than one, and now it seems that applies to cats too. So if you're having trouble deciding between cats, get both! Or better yet, adopt siblings so they can stay together. Since having two cats gives them companionship, it is often less work than having one cat who is desparate for attention.
