The Third Annual Governor’s Ball, August 2005

The Governor’s Ball, A Stately Affair, first began three years ago in honor of a much loved dog, whose name just happens to be Governor. The event is a gathering point for urban trendsetters and features a diverse mixture of art, music, dance and food. This summer, the Governor’s Ball was hosted by a unique group of cultural and social activists who will direct the energy of that collaboration into action.

This evening event, dedicated to the growth of socially conscious non-profits, brings together like-minded artists, activists, community leaders and socially conscious businesses to foster support and raise money for two local non-profit organizations.

The Yolo County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) works to improve the welfare of animals through programs promoting adoption, humane education, spay/neutering, and the capture, altering, and releasing of feral cats. The Yolo County SPCA is a foster based program that relies upon volunteers who provide foster care and housing for animals awaiting adoption to a loving, long term home.

The Agora Project (TAP) is a non-profit co-operative organization of young professionals and students with the mission of fostering an informed, creative and engaged generation of independent leaders through the free expression of ideas and community development activities. TAP provides FreeSpace forums for open discussions, facilitates and supports CommunityBuilding opportunities and offers a SocialNetworking sphere for socially conscious and action oriented young people.

All proceeds benefited the Yolo County SPCA and the Agora Project.
